A 150 people capacity ‘hygge’ themed tipi positioned by the canal on Castle Street in the heart of Castlefield will be serving pizzas from a wood fired pizza oven, warm cocktails, Danish glogg, the Scandinavian mulled wine, and a selection of wines, spirits and draught beers including Denmark’s ever-popular Carlsberg lager.
While Dukes is undergoing a million pound refurbishment, customers of this popular Castlefield bar will be able to cosy up under canvas, enjoy the rustic charm of the tipi and even bring their pet pooch, as the dog-friendly pop-up pub will be offering water bowls and treats for canine customers.
Open every day from 12 noon until 11pm, there will be live acoustic music every Sunday and a range of special events including poetry and comedy nights.
Hygge is a Danish word pronounced hoo-gah which can be summed up as the art of cosiness and enjoying life’s simple pleasures in the company of others.
Hygge is as much part of Danish life as chic is for the French. It’s embedded into their culture and is woven into the way people in Denmark live their lives. So it’s no wonder Danish people are said to be the happiest nation on earth.
James Ramsbottom, Managing Director of Elle R Leisure who own Dukes 92 said: “Snuggled up on a cold night, wearing a woolly jumper, drinking a mug of mulled wine with a dog at your feet in the warm glow of candlelight is very hygge. So we thought we’d bring a little hygge to Manchester this winter. While we undertake a three month refurbishment of the bar, we didn’t want to leave our regulars out in the cold. So we’ve created a hygge-inspired space so our customers can cosy up under canvas and enjoy this winter hide-away with family and friends.”
“The £1 million refurbishment of Dukes 92 marks the bar’s 25th anniversary. We look forward to welcoming people back in the spring and hope everyone enjoys the next 25 years eating and drinking in this much-loved Manchester institution.”
