Martino competing for World Pizza Chef title
Martino Cusumano, The Italian Club Group's food director is representing Liverpool this coming week at www.pizzaexpo.com where he will be with more than 12,000 pizza professionals from around the globe competing for the title of World Pizza Games Champion after being selected from hundreds of thousands of hopefuls from across the UK.
The Games begins on Tuesday and ends with the finals later this week with the best 'pizzaiaolo' crowned according to five divisions which includes the Freestyle Acrobatic Dough Tossing contest!
Martino, who originally hails from Sicily and is celebrating his 40th birthday this week, came to Liverpool in 2003 where he met The Italian Club Group owners Rosaria Crolla and Maurizio Pellegrini who have since become multiple award winners for their restaurants, The Italian Club and The Italian Club Fish plus The Italian Club Bakery based in Bold Street and Newington Street respectively.
Martino is hoping to repeat his winning performances at numerous World and European competitions and scoop another title plus a generous purse running into thousands of dollars.
He said: “We've all travelled together to Vegas to represent the company and Liverpool and I'm very proud to do so. I'm also quietly confident that we have a very good chance...after all, I get to practise my skills everyday in the restaurants in my adopted city and our guests are always very complimentary about our pizzas.”
